What's an Apprenticeship?

At LAGAT, we appreciate that every person is different.  For some, when leaving school, sixth form or College is a natural choice.  For others, employment is the preferred option, obtaining valuable skills and the first step towards a career.

We understand the value of both qualifications and experience.  We also know the benefits that can be gained through on-the-job training.  After all, there's no better place to learn work based skills, then in the work place.

Apprenticeships are nationally designed training programmes for individuals aged 16 and over who have left full-time education and are in employment. Unlike in the past where an Apprenticeship was only available to young people aged 16 to 24, recent government changes now permits individuals of any age from 16 upwards to take advantage of the programme, so there's no better time to start learning!

An Apprenticeship offers the opportunity to learn on the job with your employer, building up knowledge and skills, gaining qualifications and earning money at the same time.

What type of training is available through the Apprenticeship Programme?

As an approved training provider, LAGAT offer a wide range of business related qualifications.  These include:

  • Support with English and Maths
  • Business Administration
  • Customer Service
  • Teaching Assistant
  • IT
  • Retail
  • Distribution, Warehousing and Storage
  • Catering/Hospitality
  • Travel and Tourism
  • Team Leading / Management

The programme itself is made up of a framework of qualifications.  These include the main award (NVQ), a Technical Certificate and Key Skills (English and Maths, if required).

Fully personalised programme - Create your own training plan

With the input from your employer, we will ensure the training provided is always the most appropriate to your own job role, allowing your day to day duties to be used towards the qualification.

What sort of job can the Apprenticeship Programme support?
Receptionist...  Administrators...  Sales Assistants...  IT Support...  Warehouse and Distribution Operatives...  Catering/Hospitality Staff...
Bar Attendants...  Waiting Staf...  Travel Operators...  Team Leaders...

What ever type of job you're in, the Apprenticeship Programme offers a wide range of qualifications to compliment it.

Where will the training take place?

Unlike classroom led training programmes, all training and assessment is carried out in the work place.  Furthermore, because the training is always relevant to the job role, your day to day duties are used to support the qualification.

Interested in the Apprenticeship Programme and already employed?

Fantastic!

The Apprenticeship Programme is available to all individuals aged 16 and over, subject to  eligibility.  Secondly, all learners MUST be employed.  So, subject to the agreement of your employer, you're already half way there.

The proramme itself is fully funded* by the Government.  As a provider however, we do ask employers to make a monthly contribution to the training costs for learners aged 19 and over, due to lower rate funding.   Our Business Advisors are always happy to visit employers and discuss the Apprenticeship Progamme and its benefits.  Why not ask for a visit today.
